La Roche-Posay Redermic Daily Fill-In Anti-Wrinkle Firming Care
La Roche-Posay Redermic Daily Fill-In Anti-Wrinkle Firming Care for Normal to Combination Skin is designed to increase the elasticity and firmness of skin while minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The lotion decreases wrinkled appearance by “filling in” wrinkles when you apply it, but unlike many lotions that claim to do this, La Roche-Posay does not include ingredients to increase shine—and temporarily decrease a viewer’s ability to view wrinkles—in its list of ingredients.
Instead, the lotion credits a healing plant from Madagascar called madecassoside (scientific name Centella asiatica) with the lotion’s ability to smooth away wrinkles permanently. The daily fill-in also contains vitamin C, which is believed to help prevent sun damage and deter further environmental weathering on the skin.
La Roche-Posay products are all based around healing thermal spring water that is believed to help with everything from age lines to acne.
The lotion comes in a blue and white squeeze bottle that can stand on end to make application easy even as you run low on product. You should apply the lotion twice daily—in the morning and evening—to your entire face and neck.
My Rating is: 3/5
Drawbacks:
This product appears to provide good results, but only if your skin is suited to the treatment. There are also some other potential problems that must be addressed before purchase.
- This treatment is designed for “normal to combination skin,” but provides no guidance on how to determine what your skin type is. If you diagnose your skin type incorrectly, then the product may simply have no effect or can even irritate your skin.
- This product contains hyaluronic acid to help with hydration. When it is consumed as part of a healthy diet, this acid has been linked to healthier skin. However, it has also flagged as a potential link to cancer. Neither of these results has been proved conclusively.
- The La Roche-Posay Firming Care cream must be used regularly for consistent results. Because it is a “daily fill-in,” most results will likely be temporary.
Benefits:
This anti-wrinkle cream definitely has some advantages over other versions of similar products.
- The company’s specialty is a “Healing Thermal Spring Water” that is rich in selenium, which helps with damage caused by sun exposure. This water is incorporated into their products and is highly suited for this type of anti-aging treatment.
- The product is relatively inexpensive and can be used as a foundation as well as a moisturizer. Considering how bad most foundations are for your skin, a base like this cream is pretty hard to beat.
- The product has been used successfully to diminish the appearance of acne scars in cases where the user did not have wrinkles.
Price: $45.50 for 1.35 fluid ounces
Guarantee
- La Roche-Posay does not have a standard guarantee, but they do promise “perfectly safe makeup” that is tested using clinical, double-blind studies of no less than 300 people.
My Review
This product leaves me feeling somewhat ambivalent. It seems to be relatively successful for hydrating purposes and appears to have good effects for some users, but the results are far from conclusive.
It appears to be more of an “amped-up” moisturizer than an actual anti-wrinkle treatment as the name implies, as the majority of the active ingredients are generally applied as treatments for sun damage and wrinkle prevention rather than removal or treatment.
While the madecassoside plant may help fill wrinkles, scientific studies show that the plant mainly functions to increase the absorption of other substances, which would imply that this ingredient is mainly good for hydration.
However, the cream does have some good results although they are not consistent, so it might pay off to consult a dermatologist about your odds of success before investing in this product. If your wrinkles are related to hydration issues or sun damage, then the treatment might just do the trick. Likewise, if you have problems with acne scars then this cream might be the solution.
However, many users report using three or more bottles before achieving visible results, so if you are looking for a fast repair then this is not the product for you.
